Severe Weather Impact Across Portugal
Storm Claudia continues to batter Portugal with heavy rainfall and strong winds, causing significant disruptions across the country. The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued orange weather warnings - the second-highest alert level - for two districts due to persistent heavy precipitation.
Current Weather Alerts and Forecast
Faro district is under an orange warning for "heavy showers, sometimes strong and accompanied by thunder" between 06:00 and 12:00 on Friday. Setúbal district faces the same alert level for similar conditions during the early morning hours until 09:00.
The orange warning will remain in effect for both Faro and Setúbal on Saturday between 09:00 and 15:00 due to "persistent precipitation, sometimes heavy and accompanied by thunder."
All continental Portuguese districts and the Madeira archipelago are under yellow warnings for various reasons including rough seas, strong winds, or precipitation through Saturday.
Emergency Response and Damage Assessment
According to the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC), mainland Portugal recorded 2,106 incidents related to severe weather by 21:00 on Thursday. The storm has resulted in two fatalities, one minor injury, and four displaced persons.
Operations officer José Costa told Lusa news agency that the adverse weather conditions caused by Storm Claudia have led to intense and persistent rains, strong winds, and rough seas across the country.
Regional Impact Breakdown
The Lisbon and Tagus Valley region was hardest hit with 1,196 recorded incidents, followed by the Central region with 477 occurrences. The Northern region reported 130 incidents, while Algarve recorded 203 and Alentejo 100.
Weather Warning System Explained
The orange warning indicates a "moderate to high-risk meteorological situation," while the yellow warning signals risk conditions for certain weather-dependent activities.

Civil protection authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as Storm Claudia maintains its influence over Portuguese territory.
