Government Open to Talks, UGT Stands Firm
The Minister of Labor, Rosário Palma Ramalho, has criticized the stance of the UGT and assured that the Government is "perfectly willing" to negotiate changes to labor law until the general strike on December 11. However, the trade union center believes that "there are no conditions" to negotiate the more than 130 articles in this period.
Key Points of Contention
The Government states it is available to negotiate amendments to the Labor Code. The UGT laments the intransigence and considers the individual hour bank and the right to strike as "cornerstones" that it will not give up.
