Shocking Double Homicide at The Apeadeiro Restaurant
A double homicide occurred this Sunday around dinnertime at O Apeadeiro – Sarilhos in Montijo. The restaurant, which opened in February in a former railway stop, was co-owned by the older victim and the alleged murderer. It was open for business when shots were fired at the father and son, with several witnesses present. The suspect reportedly fled in a vehicle and remains at large.
Details of the Victims and Suspect
The alleged killer shot his partner, a Luso-Brazilian man in his 60s, who had moved to Portugal during the pandemic to expand his event business from Brazil. As the son of Portuguese parents, he decided to stay. In an interview with NiT, he shared his connection to the area, recalling childhood clubs in Rio de Janeiro where Portuguese culture was celebrated. He fell in love with the derelict railway stop, seeing its potential and the deep ties locals had to it, leading to its restoration and the opening of the restaurant.
His son, a man in his 20s who regularly assisted his father, was the second victim in this tragic event.
Investigation and Motive
The Setúbal Judicial Police are investigating and believe business disagreements between the partners motivated the murders. The alleged perpetrator, a former car dealership owner with a criminal record, is thought to have acted alone.
Timeline and Emergency Response
According to a GNR source, the incident happened around 8 PM on Sunday. The victims were transported to Barreiro Hospital in resuscitation efforts by approximately 8:45 PM and were pronounced dead at the hospital. Their bodies will undergo autopsies at the National Institute of Legal Medicine in Lisbon.
The Península de Setúbal Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command reported the alert at 7:55 PM. The victims were found in cardiorespiratory arrest and received advanced life support. By 8:45 PM, they were en route to the hospital, accompanied by emergency medical vehicles from Barreiro and Loures.
