Carlos Moedas Takes Office for 2025-2029 Term

Carlos Moedas, who was elected president of Lisbon City Council with 41.69% of the votes, will be sworn in for the 2025-2029 term in a ceremony held late this afternoon at the Gare Marítima de Alcântara.

The installation ceremony of the municipal bodies for the 2025-2029 quadrennium will take place from 17:00 at the Gare Marítima de Alcântara, with the swearing-in of the 17 elected members of the Lisbon City Council and the 75 deputies of the Municipal Assembly, which includes the 24 parish council presidents.

In the October 12 elections, Social Democrat Carlos Moedas was re-elected president of the Lisbon City Council through the "Por ti, Lisboa" candidacy – PSD/CDS-PP/IL, which obtained 110,586 votes (41.69%) and secured eight mandates, one more than the seven achieved in 2021, falling just one short of an absolute majority, which would require the election of nine of the 17 members that make up the capital's executive.
