A Legal Standoff in the Marquês Operation
José Manuel Ramos, the court-appointed defender for former Prime Minister José Sócrates, is refusing to step down from the case, even after being dismissed by Sócrates himself. Ramos stated, "If José Sócrates doesn't like me and wants another lawyer, he just has to appoint one and inform the court. Until he does that, I am his lawyer, and I will attend the next session. In fact, I am already reviewing the case files."
This development comes amid the ongoing Operation Marquês trial, where Sócrates has expressed concerns that his trial is proceeding "without a defender." Ramos's insistence on continuing his role highlights tensions in the high-profile legal proceedings, underscoring the complexities of legal representation in politically sensitive cases.
