Hospital Contacted Family Four Days After Pregnant Woman's Death

Four days after the death of Umo Cani, a 36-year-old Guinean national, and following inquiries from RTP, the Hospital Fernando da Fonseca in Amadora-Sintra has now stated that it 'has contacted the family of the user to offer heartfelt condolences'. The hospital also expressed its readiness 'to provide all psychological support deemed necessary'.

Details of the Incident

The woman, who was 38 weeks pregnant, was admitted to the hospital in the early hours of Friday already in cardiorespiratory arrest. She had attended a routine prenatal appointment on Wednesday and was sent home. In the early hours of the following day, she suffered another cardiorespiratory arrest and did not survive. RTP has learned that the cause of death was likely a heart attack.

Baby Also Succumbs

On Saturday, the baby, who had been in intensive care since birth, also passed away.

Family Plans Legal Action

Regarding the criminal complaint that the family intends to file against the hospital, the Amadora-Sintra facility declined to comment, citing the multiple ongoing investigations.
