Diogo Moura, the former Culture Councilor of the Lisbon City Hall (CML), is back in office after suspending his mandate in May last year due to allegations of fraud in internal elections of the CDS-PP party. These accusations were later dismissed.
Moura announced his return on his social media this Thursday evening, stating, “As we start 2025, I am resuming my mandate as Councilor for the Lisbon City Hall for CDS-PP, elected in the coalition 'New Times'.” He assured his commitment to the people of Lisbon, emphasizing, “I do not have a habit of failing to fulfill mandates.”
It remains uncertain whether Moura will regain the Culture portfolio, as the distribution of roles will be formally decided by the Mayor next week. During Moura's suspension, Mayor Carlos Moedas took over the Culture duties, while Joana Oliveira e Costa assumed responsibilities for Economy and Innovation.
In May 2024, Moura was accused by the Public Prosecutor's Office of fraud in two internal elections of the CDS-PP. He was suspected of attempting to cast votes of individuals who were not present at the polls. Following the accusations, Moura suspended his mandate, claiming he was facing an “unfounded personal attack.” Ultimately, he was cleared of the charges, and the case was archived.
Moura has chosen to defer comments regarding his return to the media for now.
