Six emergency services will be closed this weekend across Portugal, impacting essential healthcare for women and children. The Gynecology and Obstetrics departments in the hospitals of Vila Franca de Xira, Caldas da Rainha, Leiria, and Portimão will not be operational. In Setúbal, only women referred by INEM will be accepted. This situation has prompted the Ministry of Health to strongly urge the public to contact the SOS Grávida Helpline for assistance.
In addition, pediatric emergency services in Loures and Chaves will also be closed, although the SNS Portal lists the Trás-os-Montes unit as open. Other emergency services will only accept referred patients; this includes the pediatric emergencies at Santa Maria in Lisbon and Garcia de Orta in Almada, as well as during nighttime in Viseu and Amadora-Sintra. The closures raise concerns about access to urgent medical care during this period.
