A TAP flight bound for Venice was struck by lightning just one hour after takeoff from Lisbon. The incident occurred as the aircraft was approaching Ponte de Sôr, forcing it to turn back to the capital.
Details of the Emergency
According to reports from CNN Portugal, the lightning strike caused one of the engines to lose power, leading to a propulsion failure. The pilots managed the situation and executed a safe emergency landing at Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon.
Passenger Handling and Aircraft Status
Following the landing, the Airbus A320 was grounded for inspection to assess any damage. All passengers were transferred to another aircraft, which successfully reached Venice around 9 PM.
