New Murals in Lisbon: A Tribute to 50 Years of Freedom

The Urban Art Gallery initiative has transformed five distinct locations in Lisbon, showcasing murals that reflect the theme of freedom as part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the April 25 revolution. The project, titled "5 Decades, 5 Artists, 5 Murals", was spearheaded by the Lisbon City Council and culminated in September.

Locations of the Murals

  • Rua B in the Bairro da Liberdade, Campolide
  • Rua dos Caminhos de Ferro near Santa Apolónia
  • Avenida Gago Coutinho in Areeiro
  • Calçada dos Mestres in Campolide
  • Costa do Castelo, behind the Teatro da Garagem

These sites now feature the work of five artists, each representing a different decade of urban art history in Portugal, illustrating the evolution of this vibrant artistic expression.

Artists and Their Murals

The artists involved in this initiative include:

  • Youth One at Rua B, Bairro da Liberdade
  • Kruella D’Enfer at Costa do Castelo
  • Arisca at Rua dos Caminhos de Ferro
  • António Alves at Calçada dos Mestres
  • MaisMenos at Avenida Gago Coutinho

Their works serve as a dialogue on the question: Where is freedom? While the murals may not provide definitive answers, they invite reflection and exploration.
