Bad Weather Warning Extended

The Funchal Captaincy has extended the bad weather warning for the coastal areas until 6 AM tomorrow, November 25th.

Weather Forecast

According to the issued statement, winds from the S/SW are expected to be very fresh to strong, gradually shifting to moderate to fresh W winds by late morning, and then shifting to N/NW becoming gentle to moderate by late afternoon.

Visibility and Wave Conditions

Visibility may be poor at times but is expected to improve by late morning. Northwest waves along the North Coast can reach up to 2 meters, while southwest waves along the South Coast may reach 2.5 meters.

Safety Recommendations

The Captaincy advises the maritime community and the general public to:

  • Reinforce mooring and maintain close vigilance over docked and anchored vessels.
  • Avoid walks near the sea or in exposed areas to maritime agitation, such as port protection jetties, cliffs, or beaches, to prevent being caught off guard by waves.
  • Refrain from recreational fishing, especially near cliffs and areas frequently hit by wave break, keeping in mind that under these conditions, the sea can easily reach seemingly safe areas.
