Journalist and Writer Fernando Paulouro Neves Dies
Fernando Paulouro Neves, a name forever linked to the Jornal do Fundão, passed away on Monday night, as reported by the newspaper he was deeply associated with. The Jornal do Fundão was founded by his uncle, António Paulouro, cementing a family legacy in Portuguese media.
A Lifelong Commitment to Journalism
Paulouro Neves served as a journalist, editor-in-chief, and director of the Jornal do Fundão until his departure in 2012. Remarkably, just the day before his death, he launched his latest book, As Sombras do Combatente, in his hometown of Fundão, where he was born in 1947.
Accolades and Recognitions
His contributions were widely recognized: in 2013, the Fundão Municipal Council awarded him the municipal medal of merit. Among his many honors are the Prémio Gazeta de Mérito and the prestigious Prémio Eduardo Lourenço.
Professional and Literary Legacy
Throughout his career, he was active in journalism organizations, including the Sindicato dos Jornalistas and the Comissão da Carteira Profissional de Jornalista. As an author, he published over a dozen books, enriching Portuguese literature.
Family's Final Break from the Newspaper
In 2018, the Paulouro family completely severed ties with the Jornal do Fundão by selling their minority stake to the Global Media Group.
Fernando Paulouro Neves was 78 years old—just one year younger than the newspaper he dedicated his life to. He was set to preside over the honorary committee for the paper's 80th anniversary in 2026.
