The Blue Theater Network of the Algarve, uniting 13 municipalities, is set to establish a show fund aimed at fostering artistic creation and the production of innovative projects across various cultural domains.
This initiative is part of the Network's 2025 Activity Plan, unveiled in Lagos, Faro district. Dália Paulo, representing Loulé municipality and a network partner, highlighted that the fund is designed for all cultural entities in the Algarve. The goal is to ensure each network partner schedules at least one show in the upcoming year.
The fund targets cultural agents with legal status based in the Algarve, aiming to enhance the mobility of artists and performances across the region. Paulo, formerly the Algarve's regional culture director, emphasized the desire to stimulate cultural structures towards new creative challenges and reach broader audiences.
Established in 2016, the Blue Theater Network of the Algarve seeks to encourage the creation, circulation, and promotion of the region's cultural offerings in performing arts and their dialogues, involving cultural facilities from 13 of the Algarve's 16 municipalities.
Beyond the show fund, the Network's activity plan includes launching an artistic creation contest for Algarve's cultural entities, alongside conferences and seminars throughout the year. The contest aims to conceive and present an original creation within the performing arts, premiering in 2026 across the network's 13 municipal facilities.
According to the regulations, each Algarve-based cultural entity may submit one creation proposal, with exceptions for co-productions among network members. The selected proposal will receive 50,000 euros, with the jury reserving the right to award the sum to the next best project if the winner declines.
