CTT (Correios de Portugal) has inaugurated a new parcel sorting machine at the Algoz Operational Center in Faro, marking a significant step in the company's modernization efforts. This €1.5 million investment is set to double the center's processing capacity, serving nearly half a million residents across the Algarve and parts of Alentejo.
Key Developments:
- Job Creation: The new facility currently supports 50 direct and 100 indirect jobs, with plans to add 50 more positions by year-end.
- Operational Expansion: The upgrade opens a new operational corridor between Algarve and Andalusia, enhancing cross-border logistics.
- Efficiency Gains: The advanced sorting machine is expected to reduce processing times, improving service quality across the region.
Broader Impact:
The Algoz Center, operational since April 2022, spans 4,500 m² with a total area of over 9,000 m². This investment is part of CTT's strategy to strengthen its Iberian operations, with similar upgrades in Aveiro, Leiria, Palmela, Coimbra, Braga, Maia, and Lisbon.
In Spain, new sorting machines have been installed in Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, and San Fernando de Henares, reflecting CTT's commitment to pan-Iberian coverage. The company now operates 73 centers across the Iberian Peninsula, 30 of which are fully automated, processing over 500,000 items daily.
