The 16E Tram will connect Praça do Comércio in downtown Lisbon to the Parque das Nações in the eastern part of the city, covering a total of 12 kilometers. This initiative aims to enhance mobility in the neighborhoods of Santa Maior, São Vicente, Penha de França, Beato, Marvila, and Parque das Nações.
The Carris project was recently presented and stands out as the first tram in Lisbon designed to operate on a fully dedicated channel. The line will feature a total of 18 stops, supported by a €160 million initial investment, with contributions from European funds.
“This project ensures the continuity of the riverside railway line from Algés to the Parque das Nações, allowing for greater coverage with the same mode of transport and fewer transfers. With this line, it will be possible to travel between the city center and Parque Tejo in 35 minutes, compared to the current 60 minutes,” as stated on the official website of Tram Line 16E.
