Lisbon is set to host an enchanting evening of staged readings this Saturday, celebrating the European Literature Night. From 7:00 PM to 11:30 PM, the parishes of Avenidas Novas and São Sebastião will come alive with performances that blend literature and theater, offering a unique cultural experience.
Highlights of the event include readings by renowned European authors, such as Emmanuelle Pirotte from Belgium, Yannis Mavritsakis from Greece, Carla Lucarelli from Luxembourg, Sorina Rîndasu from Romania, and Portugal's own David Machado. Each author's work will be brought to life by talented actors in unexpected urban settings, creating a literary and theatrical fusion that promises to captivate audiences.
- Emmanuelle Pirotte's "Ainda Estamos Vivos" will be read at Nouvelle Librairie Française, exploring survival during WWII.
- Yannis Mavritsakis's play "Vitriol / Vitrioli" will be performed at the Museu Banksy.
- Carla Lucarelli's "Estaleiros do Desejo" will be voiced at São Sebastião metro station.
- Sorina Rîndasu's poetry and David Machado's "Os dias do ruído" will also feature prominently.
Additional readings include works by Jenny Erpenbeck, Alana S. Portero, and others, with some sessions offering Portuguese Sign Language interpretation. This event, organized by EUNIC Portugal, showcases the rich tapestry of European literature and its power to connect communities.
