About the Ceremony
This Saturday, November 8, the Junta de Freguesia de Santa Maria Maior will announce the winner of the 3rd edition of the Armando Baptista-Bastos Literary Prize in a public ceremony hosted by ISPA – Instituto Universitário. The prize was established to honor Armando Baptista-Bastos, one of Portugal's most important writers, journalists, and chroniclers of Lisbon, and to promote literary creation in the Portuguese language.
Prize Information
Instituted in 2022, the Armando Baptista-Bastos Literary Prize awards unpublished works of prose fiction (novel or novella) with a monetary value of €3,500. This initiative underscores the commitment of the Junta de Freguesia de Santa Maria Maior to fostering culture, literature, and the city's memory.
Jury Composition
The jury for this edition comprises individuals of recognized intellectual and literary merit:
- Manuel Alberto Valente (President) – Writer and editor
- João Tordo – Writer and screenwriter
- Maria João Cantinho – Poet, literary critic, and essayist
- José Ferreira Fernandes – Journalist and author, founder of Mensagem de Lisboa
- Ricardo Gonçalves Dias – Culture representative in JF Santa Maria Maior and published author
Prestige and Past Winners
Previous winners, Álvaro Filho and António Cabrita, have solidified the prize's reputation, making it one of the most significant cultural initiatives promoted by a Lisbon municipality.
