Nine homes in the heart of Porto, previously known as the ‘Ilha das Oliveiras’, have been sold by the Porto Diocese for €130,000. The properties, located on Rua de Burgães, were part of a significant transaction that attracted attention during the 2021 electoral campaigns. Despite political promises made at that time, little has changed since then, and the area remains largely uninhabited today. Two of the houses have since been converted into local accommodations. The buyers, Mário Moreira & José Salgado, have reportedly become affluent through these transactions, raising concerns about the fate of the elderly residents who were displaced in the process. This deal highlights the ongoing challenges in addressing housing needs in the area.
