Rare Domingos Sequeira Painting Fetches €95,000 in Lyon Auction, Escaping Portuguese State Acquisition

A painting by Domingos Sequeira, depicting a biblical scene titled "Resting During the Flight to Egypt", was sold for an impressive €95,000 at an auction held in Lyon, France.

This artwork, created in 1824, had been recently rediscovered, with its whereabouts unknown until now. The auction was conducted by ArtEnchères, and the painting was acquired by a couple of Portuguese collectors who plan to take it to New York.

Despite efforts to secure the piece, the Portuguese State participated in the bidding but ultimately was unable to finalize the purchase as intended.
