Shocking Details Emerge in Vagos Matricide Case
A 14-year-old boy suspected of murdering his mother, Susana Gravato, a councilwoman in Vagos Municipality, hid the crime weapon in his paternal grandparents' grave, according to a report by Jornal de Notícias citing sources close to the investigation.
The minor meticulously planned the crime and attempted to stage a robbery. On the morning of the incident, he attended school, had lunch with his parents at a restaurant, and returned home. However, he left again to cover surveillance cameras, creating the illusion that he wasn't present during the alleged crime.
After covering the cameras, the 14-year-old returned home, accessed his parents' safe (knowing the code beforehand), and retrieved his father's licensed firearm. He then went to the living room and fired two shots at his mother, one of which struck Susana Gravato in the back of the head. At the time, the councilwoman was on the phone with a municipal employee who heard everything.
Before leaving the house again, the teenager moved the body to the sofa and covered it with a blanket, possibly out of compassion. He then took money, placed it in a bag, and scattered the bills around the house to simulate a robbery. Additionally, he threw his mother's mobile phone into a neighbor's yard.
He proceeded to the cemetery where his paternal grandparents are buried and concealed the alleged murder weapon in their grave. Later, his father called him, fearing he had been kidnapped. The adolescent appeared "restless but indifferent" upon returning home.
The Aveiro Judicial Police determined hours later that the 14-year-old son had killed his mother, allegedly because she "annoyed him too much." The boy had never been diagnosed with any mental disorder, but during interrogation, authorities suggested he might suffer from obsessive-compulsive disorder.
When admitted to the Porto educational center, where he was placed by the Aveiro family and minors court judge, the youth was disturbed, frightened, and remorseful about the alleged crime.
