Deadly Crash on IC2 Highway
A Brazilian immigrant family residing in Condeixa-a-Velha was tragically killed in a devastating head-on collision on Sunday morning along the IC2 highway in the Venda a Nova area of Soure municipality. The driver of an oncoming vehicle lost control, entered the wrong lane, and collided head-on with the car carrying the three victims: two women aged 38 and 44, and a 54-year-old man.

Emergency Response and Fatalities
The alert for the head-on collision on the IC2, near the intersection to Porto Coelheiro in an area without a central divider, was received around 7:35 AM by the volunteer fire departments of Soure and Condeixa-a-Nova. A total of 36 emergency personnel and 15 vehicles from both fire departments, INEM (National Institute of Medical Emergency), and the local GNR (National Republican Guard) were mobilized. Tiago Picão, commander of the Condeixa-a-Nova Volunteer Firefighters, confirmed to Notícias de Coimbra that it was a "head-on collision with one vehicle traveling in the wrong lane" and described the impact as extremely violent.
Upon arrival, rescue teams found four seriously injured individuals. Three were unconscious inside a destroyed Renault Clio. The other vehicle had only the driver. Despite the efforts of emergency personnel and the INEM medical team, two Brazilian women died at the scene. The 54-year-old male relative of the victims was transported to the University Hospital of Coimbra but succumbed to his severe injuries.

The deaths of Juracy Viana and her husband Natalício Fernandes have been mourned by the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Condeixa-a-Nova. On Facebook, the institution expressed deep sorrow over the "unexpected loss of employee Juracy Viana and her husband," extending "heartfelt condolences" to the entire family and friends. They remembered her as a "dedicated employee cherished by all" and assured she would be "eternally remembered."
According to Notícias de Coimbra, Juracy Viana was celebrating her birthday this Sunday and, at the time of the violent accident, was heading to a church in Pombal. The third victim was a relative of the couple named Viviane.
