Reviving Benfica's Legacy in Lisbon
On March 17, 2023, the Benfica Foundation and FLH Hotels from the Feelslikehome group signed a partnership agreement to revitalize the building of the former headquarters of Sport Lisboa e Benfica on Rua Jardim do Regedor. This historic building was donated by the club to the Benfica Foundation to support its mission globally, leading to the creation of the 1904 Benfica Hotel.
Rui Costa, President of Sport Lisboa e Benfica and the Benfica Foundation, signed the document. The official inauguration is scheduled for January 2026, with the next president—either Rui Costa or João Noronha Lopes, depending on the November 8 election runoff—set to cut the ribbon. Before that, a soft opening is planned for December 2025.
Immersive Club-Themed Experience
The 1904 Benfica Hotel is designed around the history of Sport Lisboa e Benfica, evoking memories for club members and fans. It will feature 56 rooms, each with a niche near the door decorated with items from Benfica's past and present.
On the first floor, a restaurant and a multipurpose room will serve guests for leisure and can be adapted for club conferences and events. The highlight is a bar inspired by early 20th-century English pubs, where the atmosphere will be filled with Benfica spirit, including photos of former athletes and a large club emblem on the ceiling.
Modern Additions with Historic Views
The top two floors were newly constructed to offer guests stunning views of São Jorge Castle and Rua das Portas de Santo Antão, as confirmed by the promoter.
GV+Arquitectos is handling the transformation, emphasizing the preservation of the building's identity at the entrance. They maintained original lines while adding subtle modern elements to create a welcoming space that honors the past. In the bar, the design aims to blend tradition with club history, featuring an intimate setting with iconic decor. Corridors include personalized niches that reflect Benfica's memory, and the upper floors combine contemporary spaces with Lisbon's historic charm.
Nod to Club Origins and Timeline
The hotel is named 1904 Benifica Hotel in reference to the club's founding on February 28, 1904. Initially planned for an October 2025 opening, construction delays have pushed the completion slightly. The inauguration will be led by the new administration elected in the November 8 runoff.
