Celebrate Christmas with Free Concerts in Lisbon

This November and December, three churches in the Lisbon neighborhoods of Campo de Ourique, Misericórdia, and Areeiro, along with the Capitólio, will host a series of free concerts as part of the city's Christmas festivities.

The Cultural Equipment and Animation Management Company (EGEAC) has announced that these venues will feature four concerts and a DJ set, showcasing a range of music from Baroque to electronic sounds, including Portuguese music and hits from international artists spanning the 1930s to the 1960s.

  • November 30: Concert by the Coro e Câmara de Lisboa Cantat at Igreja do Santo Condestável (Campo de Ourique) directed by Maestro Jorge Carvalho Alves.
  • December 6: Performance by the Nova Era Vocal Ensemble & Orquestra 1755 at Igreja de Nossa Senhora das Mercês (Misericórdia), focusing on works by the Bach family.
  • December 13: The Sete Lágrimas project at Igreja de São João de Deus (Areeiro), revisiting the journey of Ferdinand Magellan and Elcano with traditional sounds from five continents.
  • December 7: The Capitólio will feature a unique DJ set by Batida and Tigerman, blending afro-electronic and blues genres.
  • December 14: The band The Lucky Duckies will perform at the Capitólio, offering a festive repertoire that includes Christmas classics, original songs, and a tribute to António Variações in honor of the 40th anniversary of his passing.

For more details, you can visit the EGEAC municipal website.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, the city will unveil its Christmas lights, which will remain lit until January 6, featuring 1,987,125 low-energy bulbs. This year's inauguration will take place at Terreiro do Paço, starting with the lighting of the Christmas tree at 6:30 PM, followed by a light and sound show and a concert by singer Áurea.

Christmas lights will shine across 45 locations in the capital, operating from 5:30 PM to midnight on Sundays through Thursdays, extended to 1:00 AM on Fridays and Saturdays, and until 2:00 AM on Christmas Day and New Year's Eve.
