Background of the Case

Vara had been sentenced to five and a half years in prison in a legal accumulation of sentences from the Face Oculta and Operation Marquês cases. He has already served approximately three years of this sentence.

Transfer and Possible Relocation

According to a prison source, Vara was escorted by the PSP from Odivelas to be admitted to the Lisbon Prison Establishment. However, he may be transferred to another prison in the coming days, potentially to Carregueira or Évora.

Judicial Confirmations

In February of this year, the Supreme Court confirmed that Armando Vara must serve the remaining two and a half years in prison. This decision came after the defense's appeal was rejected in July 2024, when the Lisbon Judicial Court ruled that Vara should complete this prison term.

Previous Incarceration

Armando Vara had previously served time at the Évora prison due to the Face Oculta case. He was released in October 2021 under measures related to the COVID-19 pandemic. He was later convicted again in a separate proceeding from Operation Marquês.
