Youth Christmas Activity: 'You in the Nativity'
Faro, January 6, 2025 – The Diocesan Secretariat for Youth Pastoral (SDPJ) of Algarve is hosting the 'You in the Nativity' Christmas activity for young people this Saturday, January 11, from 9 PM to 11 PM at the Pastoral Center of Pêra.
This annual initiative aims to foster community spirit and solidarity, encouraging participants to bring non-perishable food items to donate to a local charity, as reported by the diocesan newspaper 'Folha do Domingo'. In 2024, the event successfully collected 76.2 kg of food donations for the Franciscan community in Algarve, supporting those in need.
The event welcomes youth aged from 10th grade up to 30 years old, alongside youth leaders, to engage in festive activities during the liturgical season of Christmas. Interested participants are urged to register individually or in groups by Thursday, January 9.
The SDPJ of Algarve also introduced its 2024/2025 activity program during an online meeting on September 30, 2024, attended by 53 participants, including the Bishop of Algarve, D. Manuel Quintas. The calendar of events includes:
- January 11 – 'You in the Nativity'
- February 1 – 1st Preparatory Meeting for the Youth Jubilee
- March 13 – 2nd Training for Youth Leaders/Catechists
- May 10 – Easter Activity: Vocational Vigil in Olhão
- July 28 to August 4 – Youth Jubilee in Rome
