Trial Begins for Barber Shop Triple Homicide

The trial of the man accused of killing three people in a Lisbon barber shop begins this Thursday at the Central Criminal Court in Lisbon's Justice Campus.

Details of the Charges

According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the defendant faces charges of three counts of aggravated qualified homicide using a firearm, one count of attempted aggravated qualified homicide using a firearm, and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon.

The Tragic Incident

The crimes occurred on October 2, 2024, in the Penha de França parish of Lisbon. According to the prosecution, "the defendant, armed with a firearm, went to a barber shop with the intention of getting a haircut."

"Because he was not served immediately, according to the accusation, the defendant shot the barber, another customer who was waiting, and that customer's partner, causing the death of all three victims," emphasized the Attorney General's Office.

Additional Shooting Attempt

The prosecution further states that the man also fired at a barber shop employee but failed to hit him.

Victims Identified

The shooting victims were:

  • The 43-year-old owner of the "Granda Pente" barber shop, who had five children
  • A couple, aged 34 and 36, residents of the Alenquer area, who were near the establishment at the time

The female victim had two children and was pregnant at the time of the shooting.

Suspect's Background and Capture

The triple homicide suspect, who lived in the neighborhood where the crime occurred and had a history of disputes with neighbors, fled the scene with his father and brother. They took refuge in a neighborhood in Pinhal Novo, Setúbal district, where police located and surrounded them. The suspect eventually surrendered with the help of family members.

Legal Proceedings

The man has been in preventive detention since his arrest. The criminal investigation judge who ordered this coercive measure requested that the defendant's psychiatric condition be evaluated. However, experts determined he was capable of distinguishing between right and wrong.
