Lisbon's iconic Avenida da Liberdade will be closed to traffic this Thursday starting at 6 PM due to the Popular Marches parade, with additional traffic restrictions in the Sé and Baixa areas in the morning, as announced by the PSP.
The Lisbon Metropolitan Command (Cometlis) of the PSP emphasized in a statement that it will deploy various subunits during the Lisbon Popular Saints festivities, particularly celebrated in the city's most traditional neighborhoods, to ensure all safety conditions.
Policing will include various specialties, such as visibility, intervention, traffic, inspection, investigation, and public order, including the Special Police Unit.
Access to the city center and festival areas will be restricted early Thursday evening (eve of the municipal holiday, St. Anthony's Day), aiming to allow safe circulation of people in various celebration and entertainment locations.
From 6 PM, streets Braamcamp and Duque de Palmela, as well as Marquês de Pombal and the avenues António Augusto de Aguiar and Fontes Pereira de Melo, will be closed, with public transport circulation ensured (internal and external north side between Avenida Fontes Pereira de Melo and Rua Joaquim António de Aguiar).
Access to Rossio will also be prohibited, according to the PSP note.
Between 12 PM and 8 PM on Thursday, circulation in the Sé area will be restricted due to the St. Anthony's Weddings.
The PSP will implement sequential car circulation restrictions from 6 PM on Thursday until 8 AM on Friday, among various arteries in Lisbon.
Additional traffic restrictions may be implemented in areas where justified, the police force highlighted.
Public transport circulation will also be heavily restricted, though its movement will be facilitated.
The PSP advised the population, given the thousands of visitors expected at the festivals, to use public transport, not to park private vehicles in prohibited areas, such as zones that may hinder the passage of emergency vehicles, or to carry valuable objects or large sums of money.
The Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP urged people attending the city's festivities to adopt a civic and responsible behavior, counting on their collaboration to report any situation that may disturb public safety and order.
