National Holidays in 2025

The year 2025 brings great surprises regarding holidays. Did you know you can turn the usual 22 workdays of vacation into many more days off? In the next lines, we will explain how to optimize your time!

It doesn’t happen often, but next year, we will have the chance to maximize our calendar for extra days of rest, whether through long weekends or bridges. Out of the 13 national holidays, 10 fall on weekdays. Adding the holiday in Lisbon on June 13, which is a Friday, makes it 11 holidays to enjoy!

Optimize Your 2025 Vacation Days

As summer vacations just ended, it’s time to start dreaming about 2025 holidays! Regardless of your vacation style, we all seek to have ample time to unwind, rest, and spend quality time with family and friends.

That’s why we’ve put together a list of tips to maximize your holidays in 2025. Besides Easter and the Republic Day, which both fall on a Sunday, and All Saints' Day (on a Saturday), all other holidays occur on weekdays.

January

January 1, 2025, is a Wednesday. To enjoy 5 days off, you only need to take 2 vacation days: Thursday, January 2, and Friday, January 3, returning to work on Monday, January 6. Happy New Year!

April and May

Thanks to the April 25 holiday on a Monday, it’s a golden opportunity! Take 8 days off between April 21 and May 2 to enjoy 16 days of rest, from the Good Friday holiday on April 18 through to May 4.

June

With June comes summer and the start of the Popular Saints Festival in Lisbon. June can be split into two distinct phases:

  • If you work in Lisbon, you can enjoy 16 days off with only 7 days of vacation by taking off June 9, 11, 12, 16, 17, 18, and 20, as the 10th (Portugal Day), 13th (Saint Anthony's Day), and 19th (Corpus Christi) are holidays.
  • If you don’t benefit from Lisbon's holiday, you can still enjoy 16 days off, but you will need to take one extra vacation day for the municipal holiday on June 13.

August

Since July has no holidays, August brings the Assumption of Our Lady holiday on a Friday, allowing for a long weekend. We suggest adding another day by taking off the preceding Thursday or the following Monday, turning 3 days into 4.

December

For September, October, and November, there are no holidays! However, December offers the Restoration of Independence (December 1), Immaculate Conception (December 8), and Christmas (December 25). The first two are on a Monday, and Christmas is on a Thursday. You can enjoy these days in two phases:

  • In the first week, take 4 vacation days (December 2-5) for 9 days off, from November 29 to December 7.
  • In the last week, take 4 vacation days (December 22-24 and December 26) for 9 days off, from December 20 to 28.
