Actor Adérito Lopes was violently attacked on Tuesday night by a group described by witnesses as neo-Nazis. The assault occurred near Teatro A Barraca in Lisbon, leaving the actor with two facial cuts. He was promptly taken to Hospital de Santa Maria for medical evaluation. The perpetrator has been identified by the PSP.
The Incident
The attack took place as Adérito Lopes arrived at the theater for the final performance of the play Amor é um fogo que arde sem se ver. According to a source from A Barraca, a group of neo-Nazis was attending an event at a nearby restaurant when one member verbally assaulted an actress from the play's cast, shouting slogans like 'death to communists'.
The Assault
Adérito Lopes, who had just arrived, was sucker-punched in the face without provocation. The attacker reportedly wore a ring, causing two significant cuts on the actor's face. "It was pure hate, an act of unprovoked violence," the source added.
Police Response
The PSP was called to the scene around 8:15 PM following reports of the assault. They quickly located and detained a 20-year-old suspect based on descriptions provided by the victim and a witness. All parties involved have been identified, and the case will be forwarded to the Public Ministry.
Impact on the Actor
While Adérito Lopes did not sustain life-threatening injuries, the facial wounds are a concern given his profession. "An actor's face is their tool; he'll bear these marks for some time," the source lamented.
