Train Carriage Detaches During Lisbon-Faro Journey

A CP Intercities train traveling from Lisbon-Oriente to Faro lost one of its carriages mid-journey on Monday, according to reports from Público. The incident occurred near Grândola when the coupling connecting two carriages broke, causing one carriage to become separated from the rest of the train composition.

No Injuries Reported

Fortunately, no passengers or crew were injured in the incident, which took place between Grândola and Canal Caveira. While the situation wasn't inherently dangerous due to safety mechanisms that automatically stop trains when couplings fail, it did cause significant disruptions to railway operations as the train remained stranded on the tracks.

Emergency Response and Investigation

To resolve the situation, a freight train was deployed to tow the Intercities train to Grândola station. The Gabinete de Prevenção e Investigação de Acidentes com Aeronaves e de Acidentes Ferroviários has opened an analysis to gather information about the incident, with preliminary indications suggesting the cause was a maintenance failure.
