Lisbon's Parish Council Results Revealed
In the recent local elections, the PS/Livre/BE/PAN coalition secured the presidency of half of Lisbon's 24 parish councils, while the PSD/CDS-PP/IL coalition won in 11 parishes. The CDU (PCP/PEV) maintained its leadership in Carnide.
Key Shifts in Parish Control
According to provisional results from the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Internal Administration, the PS remains the dominant political force in Lisbon's parish councils, despite losing two presidencies to the "Por ti, Lisboa" coalition—PSD/CDS-PP/IL—in Campo de Ourique and Campolide.
In the 2021 local elections, the PS held onto 13 parish councils but lost six to the "Novos Tempos" coalition—PSD/CDS-PP/MPT/PPM/Aliança—including Alvalade, Arroios, Avenidas Novas, Lumiar, Parque das Nações, and São Domingos de Benfica.
Notable Recoveries and Maintained Strongholds
From these six parishes, the "Viver Lisboa" coalition—PS/Livre/BE/PAN—managed to reclaim Arroios. Independent candidate João Jaime Pires, backed by the PS, won with 42.34% of the vote (5,679 votes), defeating incumbent Madalena Natividade from PSD/CDS-PP/IL, who received 33.26% (4,462 votes).
The PS continues to lead in 11 other parish councils: Ajuda, Alcântara, Beato, Benfica, Marvila, Misericórdia, Olivais, Penha de França, Santa Clara, Santa Maria Maior, and São Vicente.
CDU's Resilience in Carnide
Amid these changes, the CDU held its ground in Carnide, showcasing its enduring influence in this parish despite broader electoral shifts.
