Velhos e novos, homens e mulheres, todos em fila, ainda a ensaiar a letra e o sorriso. The moment was nothing short of special. After several months of rehearsals at the Vale Formoso Multisports Pavilion, the long-awaited day had arrived. This tradition, repeating since 2017, marks the celebration of Santo António, commemorated this Friday, June 13th.
Dressed and made up, the marchers, once again sponsored by Liliana Santos and Pedro Crispim, gathered at the start of Avenida da Liberdade. The three-kilometer route might have been extra-competition, but none of the marchers wanted to disappoint those who had prepared the parade with them for months. On this night, there were no pains, pride spoke louder.
Despite the intensity, the descent down Avenida was, above all, a moment of joy, camaraderie, and mutual support, something that had been developed during rehearsals. Paulo Jesus, the choreographer who has been with the Santa Casa March since its inception, was a central figure in this process.
Through him, the participants sang the lyrics and paraded in a choreography themed “Santa Casa is the city’s mantle”, bringing joy, tradition, and energy to all present once again.
The Santa Casa march was not just a performance; it was an expression of identity and a tribute to the history of the Misericórdia de Lisboa. Every step and every choreographed movement told a story and honored a centuries-old tradition, recalling each Good Cause of the Institution founded over five centuries ago by Queen D. Leonor.
Before the descent, the Vice-Provedora, Rita Prates, and the institution’s Administrator, Ângela Guerra, were on Avenida to congratulate the proud marchers.
