A Call from Lisbon
After spending some days in Brazil, enjoying the sun and the warmth of friends, Lisbon called me back. Despite the festive atmosphere of the carnival in Olinda, my heart belongs to Lisbon, my true home where I live with my two children.
Embracing Connections
I returned to embrace my neighbors at the Alvalade kiosk - Zé, Susana, Rita, Maria, and Tiago, who postponed Christmas celebrations just to wait for me. I also wanted to congratulate Paulinho on his victory at the derby while enjoying the fireworks festival organized by Celestino.
Local Interactions
I was eager to shake hands with Mr. Khan, the grocer, and catch up on news from South Asia while he weighed potatoes and onions. I also chatted with the friendly fishmonger and placed my bets on good news in the daily newspaper, renewing my faith in the lottery at the old tobacco shop.
Rediscovering Lisbon
Visiting the oldest bookstores and new ones like Piena, I refreshed my love for Italian literature. I cherished the warmth of friends who help keep me warm during Lisbon's cold winter nights.
Culinary Delights
I indulged in traditional Lisbon delicacies such as bolo rei, rabanada, and cozido à portuguesa prepared by the oldest cook in Lisbon. The culinary scene is vibrant, with dishes that delight and nourish.
A Hopeful Future
Lisbon called me to remind me that 2025 will be a year of change. The city recognizes the need for improvement, advocating for less conflict and more community. The relationship between the long-time residents and newcomers must evolve for a harmonious future.

When Lisbon called, I didn’t hesitate. I came back to witness and contribute to the positive changes that await us in 2025. Together, we can build a city that is welcoming and vibrant for all its inhabitants.
