Workers from Across Portugal March in Lisbon
Thousands of workers from north to south of Portugal are taking to the streets of Lisbon this Saturday in a major demonstration organized by the CGTP union. The protest aims to send a clear message to the government demanding the withdrawal of the proposed labor law revision currently under discussion.
Union-Led Mobilization Under "All to Lisbon" Banner
The demonstration, convened by the union central led by Tiago Oliveira, is scheduled to begin at 2:30 PM on Saturday. Under the motto "Todos a Lisboa" (All to Lisbon), the protest features two pre-concentration points in the capital city:
- Public sector workers will gather at Amoreiras
- Private sector workers will assemble at Saldanha
Both groups will then converge at Marquês de Pombal, with the march concluding at Restauradores.
Union Leader's Strong Statement
In statements to Lusa news agency, CGTP Secretary-General Tiago Oliveira expressed his expectations for the protest, stating he hopes it will be "a great moment of denunciation" and "affirmation" of workers' struggle against the government's proposed labor law revision. The controversial proposal is currently being discussed within the framework of Social Concertation.
Oliveira emphasized that the demonstration represents a crucial opportunity for workers to voice their opposition to what they perceive as detrimental changes to labor protections and workers' rights.
