A project initiated by young farmers in Beira Baixa has come under scrutiny after an investigation revealed a significant waste of public funds. Between 2017 and 2020, the Institute of Financing and Support to Agriculture and Fisheries (IFAP) initiated 17 Recovery Processes due to inactivity and other non-compliances.
The investigation uncovered that subsidies worth 440 thousand euros were requested to be returned, highlighting a concerning misuse of resources aimed at supporting agricultural development in the region. The lack of activity and failure to meet project commitments have raised questions about the oversight and management of such initiatives.
This case sheds light on the challenges faced by agricultural support programs in ensuring that funds are used effectively to promote sustainable farming practices among young farmers.
