Alexandra Leitão Unveils Vision for Lisbon: Culture, Housing, and Education at the Forefront

Alexandra Leitão, the Socialist Party's candidate for the Lisbon Municipal Council, made a notable appearance at the inauguration of the Beato Medieval Fair on the afternoon of Friday, June 27. Accompanied by Silvino Correia, the president of the Beato Parish Council, Leitão explored the fair's exhibits, engaging with local residents and merchants. While her campaign program is still in development, the former MP emphasized her commitment to revitalizing Culture, Housing, and Education—areas she believes have been neglected by the current PSD/CDS administration.

A Focus on Mobility and Youth

Leitão highlighted her plans for free public transport for all Lisbon residents, part of a broader mobility strategy that includes expanding bus lanes and improving Carris services. She also proposed scholarships for underprivileged university students and the establishment of more study rooms across the city, addressing the current shortage.

Cultural Initiatives and Housing Solutions

In the cultural sector, the Socialist Party aims to introduce a Lisbon Card, offering residents free access to all cultural events, a step beyond the current Cultural Pass. Additionally, Leitão stressed the urgency of addressing Lisbon's housing crisis by implementing affordable rent programs and rehabilitating municipal neighborhoods to improve living conditions and safety.

Addressing Security and Urban Challenges

Leitão pointed out the pressing need for enhanced security measures in areas plagued by drug consumption and deteriorating housing conditions. Criticizing the current administration's lack of progress, she vowed to tackle these issues head-on, ensuring a cleaner, greener, and more inclusive Lisbon.

"Lisbon can be much more and much better than it is today," Leitão asserted, outlining her vision for a city that prioritizes its residents' well-being and cultural richness.
