The most anticipated night of European literature will take place in various venues in the São Sebastião neighborhood - District Municipal Council of Avenidas Novas, in Lisbon, on Saturday, June 28, 2025. Between 7:00 PM and 11:30 PM, the public can attend 10 staged reading sessions by actors and actresses, lasting 10 to 15 minutes and repeated every half hour. Attendees of the European Literature Night will have the opportunity to explore the literature of 15 European countries: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, the UK, and Romania.
The 2025 edition of the European Literature Night will feature poems, novels, essays, theater, and short stories, showcasing themes such as love during one of Europe's most turbulent historical periods, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the experience of a young man involuntarily admitted to a psychiatric ward, the struggle against superficiality and indifference, human resilience and survival in a society that rejects the 'different,' testimonies of the Rwandan genocide tragedy, a culinary journey revealing the relationship between power and food, and the complexity of the contemporary world dominated by social media.
Confirmed attendees include writers Emmanuelle Pirotte (Belgium), Yannis Mavritsakis (Greece), David Machado (Portugal), and Sorina Rîndasu (Romania).
Romania will be represented by writer Sorina Rîndasu, presenting The Kingdom of Dysfunction (Cartier, 2024), with staged readings by actress Carolina Salles and actor Nuno Pinheiro at the Banksquiat Room – Banksy Museum, Lisbon.
Sorina Rîndasu's work poetizes her existential journey, from losing herself—manifested through insecurity, anxiety, and distrust in society's grand certainties—to rediscovering emotional stability, or at least the illusion of it.
Carolina Salles and Nuno Pinheiro, both with extensive backgrounds in theater and television, will bring these literary pieces to life. The event is a collaboration between EUNIC Portugal, the Lisbon City Council, the Lisbon Library Network BLX, the Representation of the European Commission in Portugal, Creative Europe, the Avenidas Novas Parish Council, and El Corte Inglés.
