More than 30 municipalities are at maximum fire risk this Saturday, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA). These areas are primarily located in the central interior of the country and the Algarve region.
The affected municipalities span across the districts of Guarda, Viseu, Coimbra, Castelo Branco, Santarém, Portalegre, and Faro. The IPMA forecasts temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius and dry thunderstorms in these regions.
Additionally, the IPMA has classified several municipalities across almost all continental districts as being at 'very high' and 'high' fire risk. Approximately 30 coastal municipalities are at moderate or reduced risk.
All regions of mainland Portugal are under a very high risk of exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation this Saturday.
In response to the extreme weather conditions, the use of fires, forest and agricultural machinery, fireworks, grills, or stoves has been prohibited.
Due to the ongoing heatwave, the IPMA has also issued an orange warning until Monday for 13 mainland districts: Évora, Faro, Setúbal, Beja, Portalegre, Bragança, Viseu, Guarda, Vila Real, Santarém, Lisboa, Castelo Branco, and Coimbra.
