The beloved Paiva Walkways in Espiunca have suffered significant damage due to the ongoing wildfire in Arouca, which erupted on Monday, July 30, 2025. This marks the second time in recent years that the walkways have been hit by fire, with a previous incident last year leading to their closure until April this year.
The Paiva Walkways are a cornerstone of tourism in the region, drawing thousands of visitors annually to their stunning natural beauty. The current wildfire has already ravaged 4,000 hectares, causing extensive damage beyond the walkways.
Efforts to combat the blaze are ongoing, with the community and firefighters working tirelessly to protect the area's natural and cultural heritage.
