Brazil's Strong Presence at Web Summit
Brazil is set to bring more than 300 startups to participate in the upcoming edition of the Web Summit in Lisbon. This follows a successful track record where the Brazilian contingent generated approximately 15 million euros in business over the last three years.
Focus Areas for Brazilian Startups
For the event scheduled from November 10 to 13, the majority of Brazilian startups will concentrate on key sectors such as technology, health, finance, education, biotechnology, creative economy, and agribusiness. This initiative is led by Sebrae (the Brazilian Service of Support for Micro and Small Enterprises) and ApexBrasil (the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency).
Government Support and Preparation
To better equip these companies, the Brazilian government organized online seminars and courses covering topics like the European market, investment opportunities, culture and business practices, softlanding, and internationalization strategies.
Brazil's Growing Influence
In 2024, Brazil had the second-largest delegation at the Web Summit, trailing only Germany. The financial impact has been substantial, with 406,000 euros in deals in 2021, 1.29 million euros in 2022/2023, and 733,000 euros secured in 2024. Additionally, projections indicate 12.2 million euros in business over the following six months.
Background on Web Summit
The Web Summit, which originated in Ireland in 2010, has been held in Lisbon's Parque das Nações area since 2016 and is confirmed to remain in the Portuguese capital until 2028. Notably, Rio de Janeiro has also been hosting the world's largest tech event since 2023, with plans to continue until 2030.
