Bus Driver's Terrifying Experience During Arson Attack

The Carris bus driver, who faced a harrowing ordeal after his bus was set ablaze during riots following the death of Odair Moniz, expressed relief at the recent arrests of ten suspects related to the attack. In his own words, it was “a day of relief.”

The Night of the Attack

In an interview with Diário de Notícias, the driver, known only as Tiago, recounted the chilling events of that night. Around 2 AM on October 24, he noticed a group approaching the bus carrying bottles filled with fuel. Despite his desperate attempts to close the doors and escape, he was unable to prevent the attack.

Tiago described a moment of sheer terror when one assailant pointed a gun at his head. He witnessed the fuel from the bottles spilling and igniting, leading him to believe he would not survive: “At one point, I realized I was going to die there,” he recalled.

Although he survived, he was left in serious condition and hospitalized at Santa Maria Hospital following the attack, which took place in Santo António de Cavaleiros, Loures.

Arrests Made

On Wednesday, the Judicial Police interrogated ten suspects, who now face charges including attempted homicide. Tiago hopes that those responsible will be brought to justice and face the consequences of their actions.
