The Lisbon Administrative Court has ruled that the Loures City Council is "prevented from executing the demolition act" of homes in the Talude Militar neighborhood, according to a Monday night order reviewed by Lusa. For now, the demolition of illegal constructions in this area is suspended, while the municipality reviews the injunction, a municipal source told PÚBLICO.
The court provisionally accepted the "injunction to suspend the effectiveness of an administrative act" — specifically, the demolition of homes — filed by a lawyer representing 14 residents of the Lisbon district neighborhood.
The order further states that "the requested entity [Loures City Council] is prevented from executing the demolition act and must refrain from any conduct that challenges and/or contradicts what is now determined."
The court deemed "a situation of special urgency verified", ordering its decision to be notified "immediately and in the most expeditious manner".
The Loures municipality began on Monday an operation to demolish 64 illegal shanties, self-built by residents in Talude Militar, where 161 people live. According to the city council, 51 houses were demolished on the first day, with operations continuing early Tuesday morning. Data collected by a municipal deputy and member of Vida Justa indicates "at least four houses were demolished".
