Domestic Violence Case in Machico: Suspect to Face Coercive Measures
A man arrested in Machico on suspicion of domestic violence is expected to learn today the coercive measures that will be applied by the Judicial Court of the Madeira District. This follows his detention by the PSP (Public Security Police) after allegedly assaulting his wife in the presence of their 9-year-old son two and a half days prior.
The accused will undergo his first judicial interrogation post-arrest. The PSP's Regional Command of Madeira reported yesterday afternoon that the arrest occurred after the issuance and delivery of non-flagrante delicto arrest warrants by the DIAP - Public Prosecution Service at 6 PM, with the suspect intercepted at 7:28 PM. He has since been held in PSP detention facilities, awaiting judicial interrogation within the maximum 48-hour timeframe.
According to the DIÁRIO, both the victim's and the aggressor's addresses are referenced by the PSP. Subintendent Fábio Castro disclosed that the suspect himself visited the Machico police station yesterday morning, allegedly to file a criminal complaint, but ultimately left without doing so.
For the victim, although not under constant police escort, the PSP has provided "necessary protection measures" and "direct contacts with the police officers in charge of the investigation," ensuring support for process-related queries and necessary procedures.
In related news, the Regional Secretariat for Inclusion, Work, and Youth (SRITJ), in coordination with the Madeira Institute of Social Security (ISSM), is actively supporting the victim and their family through their victim support team, ensuring all necessary steps for protection are taken.
