Algarve Nature Fest: A Celebration of Nature Beyond Sun and Sea
The Algarve Nature Fest returns for its 2025 edition, taking place from September 26 to 28. This festival is entirely dedicated to outdoor experiences and direct contact with nature, expanding for the first time to two municipalities: Aljezur and Monchique.
Event Highlights and Activities
The first day is reserved for the school communities of the host municipalities, engaging young people in educational and environmental awareness initiatives. On Saturday and Sunday, the event opens to the general public with a wide range of nature tourism activities. These include:
- Hiking
- Electric bike tours
- Segway rides
- Horseback riding
- Surf lessons
- Bird watching
- Scuba diving baptisms
- Jeep safaris
- Interpretive trails through the Serra and Costa Vicentina
In total, there are 40 free activities available for both residents and tourists, all requiring prior registration.
Insights from Tourism Officials
André Gomes, President of Turismo do Algarve, emphasized the festival's role: "The Algarve Nature Fest demonstrates how we can complement our sun and sea offerings with high-potential products like nature tourism. This is an opportunity to showcase the destination's diversity, reduce the effects of seasonality, extend the tourist season in time and territory, and reinforce the sustainability and authenticity that characterize the Algarve."
Organization and Background
Organized by Turismo do Algarve with support from the municipalities of Aljezur and Monchique, and funded by Turismo de Portugal, the event is part of the "Communication and Branding Program for Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina." This project aims to mitigate the effects of the summer 2023 fires and valorize the natural, cultural, and human resources of the region.
