Lisbon Inaugurates Green Space in Carnide
The Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, rejected the concept of a popular fair and prioritized building 'a green park with facilities for people,' which will be inaugurated this Saturday. The project for the new green park in Carnide began in 2016 under the previous municipal administration, led by the PS, with plans for a popular fair.
The new green park in the Lisbon parish of Carnide, spanning over 17 hectares, will be inaugurated on Saturday with various activities, including music, educational games, and a 'dog walk,' announced the Lisbon City Council. This inauguration definitively rules out the possibility of Lisbon having a Popular Fair again, as Moedas states that his political stance is to have 'a green park' in the space originally intended for the Popular Fair in Carnide, emphasizing that 'this is what the people who live there want. Therefore, it makes sense.'
'Come and discover the city's new green park,' invites the municipality, noting that the inauguration of this space in Carnide, where a popular fair was once planned, is scheduled for this Saturday and features various activities throughout the day from 09:00 to 19:00, with free admission.
An eco-market is expected, with producers of organic, artisanal, and environmentally friendly products, as well as an interactive space with educational games from civil protection on safety and emergency.
'Take advantage of the shaded rest area and have a picnic, bring your four-legged friend for a 'dog walk,' watch music, dance, and theater performances. Participate in workshops and ateliers on biodiversity, recycling, composting, and well-being, in games and sports activities organized by local associations and clubs,' challenges the city.
According to the Lisbon City Council, the Carnide Green Park is a 17.5-hectare green space that 'returns nature to the city, serving not only as a leisure spot but also as an important example of urban renaturalization.'
'The park was designed to enhance biodiversity, improve environmental quality, and increase Lisbon's climate resilience,' it highlights.
For the Carnide Parish Council, this new green space 'promises to transform residential quality of life' and represents one of the most significant recent investments in enhancing public space in this northern area of the capital.
The Carnide Green Park, according to the Parish Council, was designed as a multifunctional and intergenerational space, prepared to host cultural, sports, leisure, and community gathering activities, positioning itself as an important meeting point for residents and visitors.
