International Fugitive Apprehended in Lisbon

A man sentenced to four years in prison in France for robbing an elderly person's apartment has been arrested in Lisbon by the Judicial Police (PJ) under a European arrest warrant, the police force announced this Friday.

Details of the 2018 Crime

The crime dates back to 2018 when the man, along with another individual, broke a window to enter an apartment in France. Inside, they assaulted a 74-year-old man, demanding money from him.

The detained individual, now 33 years old, managed to steal 100 euros and flee the crime scene after the residence's alarm was triggered.

International Manhunt and Capture

The other suspect was arrested shortly after the robbery, while the now-detained man—a foreigner who was in an irregular situation in France at the time of the crime—fled first to Italy and then to Portugal.

He was identified through DNA evidence and by the victim via photographs, leading to his conviction for complicity in robbery and physical assault offenses.

The man was detained in Lisbon under an arrest warrant issued by French authorities and will be presented to the Lisbon Court of Appeal for possible coercive measures while awaiting a decision on his extradition to France.
