Taxi Driver Admits Guilt in Fatal Hit-and-Run
The taxi driver accused of fatally hitting Afonso Gonçalves, a 21-year-old student, in Lisbon, has confessed to the crime and apologized to the young man's parents.

Father's Reaction
In statements to CMTV, Afonso's father expressed hope that justice will not fail and that the taxi driver will serve his sentence. "It's good that he realizes his mistake, but he has to pay for it," he stated. The father also mentioned that he would never be able to forgive the man who took his son's life.
Case Background
The case dates back to September 8, 2024. The taxi driver hit the student and fled the scene. The taxi driver was first detained 48 hours after the crime, was made an accused, and then released. He was detained for the second time on October 21, 2024, and has been in preventive detention since then.
