Community Voting Begins for Local Projects
The voting phase for Pingo Doce's Bairro Feliz program kicks off today across all 31 stores in the Faro district. This community initiative runs through November 15th, with each store featuring two local projects for customers to vote on. The winning project at each location will receive up to €1,000 in support from Pingo Doce to bring their community vision to life.
How the Voting System Works
Customers participate by receiving one Bairro Feliz coin for every €10 spent (maximum of 3 coins per purchase). These special coins are then placed in the collection box corresponding to their preferred community project. The voting process is designed to be simple and accessible to all shoppers.
Diverse Local Projects in Competition
Among the 62 projects competing across Faro district stores are several impactful initiatives:
- Medical care for rescued street dogs and cats
- Acquisition of wheelchairs for elderly residents facing mobility challenges
- Purchase of a refrigerator for a social center kitchen
- Installation of swings for children's recreational activities
These diverse projects reflect the varied needs of local communities and aim to create happier neighborhoods and stronger community bonds.
National Program Scope and Impact
Filipa Pimentel, Director of Sustainable Development and Local Impact at Pingo Doce, emphasized: "Bairro Feliz has demonstrated year after year that when we give people a voice, ideas with real impact on everyone's life emerge. This new edition, with nearly a thousand causes in voting nationwide, reflects the diversity of our neighborhoods and continues to stimulate active citizenship, where every vote is a step toward transforming the community."
This marks the fifth national edition of the Bairro Feliz program, running in 467 Pingo Doce stores across mainland Portugal and the autonomous regions of Azores and Madeira. A total of 934 causes were selected by a jury from over 2,500 submitted ideas.
Program Legacy and Investment
Since its inception, the Bairro Feliz program has supported 1,950 causes nationwide, representing a €2 million investment by Pingo Doce in surrounding communities. The program addresses specific neighborhood needs across multiple areas including Health, Well-being and Sports, Social Support and Citizenship, Culture and Heritage, Tourism and Leisure, Education, Environment, and Animal Welfare.
Winning projects will be announced on November 15th following the weighing of collection boxes in each store.
