Health Minister Ana Paula Martins has refused to resign following the release of a report by the General Inspectorate of Health Activities (IGAS) concerning the death of a 53-year-old man during the 2023 INEM strike. The report highlighted a failure to provide timely assistance.
Martins emphasized, "I will never shirk my political responsibilities," but insisted the report found no direct link between the tragic incident and the strike. She urged journalists and the public to read the full report for clarity on the matter.
The minister confirmed that the Ministry of Health has directed INEM to implement IGAS's recommendations regarding the technicians involved in the incident. Despite calls from the PS party for her parliamentary hearing and the Liberal Initiative's demand for an inquiry into INEM's management, Martins remains steadfast, stating her commitment to continue working under the Prime Minister's leadership.
Martins also expressed her readiness to address any questions from the Assembly of the Republic, underscoring her transparency and dedication to resolving the issue.
