Lisbon's vibrant art scene just got richer with the opening of a new gallery dedicated to contemporary art, and the best part? Admission is free!
Starting this Friday, art enthusiasts can explore the Espaço Colecção Arte Contemporânea, a gallery that will permanently showcase the contemporary art collection acquired by the Lisbon City Council over the past decade. The inaugural exhibition, titled "WHO-WHERE/QUEM-ONDE", runs until September 7.

Curated by Sara Antónia Matos and Pedro Faro, the exhibition features a diverse and plural collection, reflecting the complexity of the present through various geographies, themes, and forms. "It's a collection that's making a history of the art of the present," Matos explains, emphasizing the importance of making it accessible to the public.
The gallery houses an impressive array of painting, photography, sculpture, installation, and video art, showcasing works by both revered and emerging artists. Names like Jorge Molder, Eduardo Batarda, and Ana Vidigal share the space with younger talents such as Diana Policarpo and Gabriel Abrantes, offering a cross-generational dialogue within the Portuguese contemporary art scene.
Located in Belém, the gallery is part of a growing cultural and artistic hub, alongside landmarks like the MAAT and the Cordoaria Nacional. With over 200 works in its collection and an investment in art nearing 400,000 euros, the gallery promises to be a dynamic space for future exhibitions and artistic explorations.
Visiting Information: Avenida da Índia, 170 (Belém). Tue-Sun 10.00-13.00, 14.00-18.00. Free entry.
